Justin Nelson Enters the Race for Texas Attorney General

Nationally recognized Texas lawyer Justin Nelson announced today he is filing preliminary paperwork to seek the Democratic nomination for Texas Attorney General.

A partner at Susman Godfrey L.L.P., Nelson is a Houston native and a graduate of Yale University and Columbia Law School. He clerked for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor of the United States Supreme Court and Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

“Justice is for all. Nobody is above the law. Texans can do better than our indicted Attorney General who is charged with criminal fraud.” Nelson said.

Nelson is a practicing lawyer specializing in high-stakes civil litigation. He has been named as among the “World’s Leading Patent Practitioners” by Intellectual Asset Management magazine and a Texas Super LawyerÒ by Thompson Reuters. He has served as Chair of the Economics of the Profession Committee in the American Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Division and is Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is also the Founder and Former President of One Nation One Vote, a non-profit dedicated to improving our democracy and changing the Electoral College. He has practiced and taught constitutional law, and is an adjunct professor at The University of Texas School of Law. Prior to attending law school, Nelson spent four summers in Latin America leading education and public health projects with the Houston- based non-profit organization Amigos de las Americas.

Nelson is planning a formal launch later in the campaign. “As Attorney General, I will protect Texans against special interests, corruption, and fraud,” Nelson declared. “Texas needs an Attorney General who will fight for working families and who recognizes the great diversity of our state.”
